Book Blurb

How do you mend a broken heart? Hint—not by looking for love in all the wrong places.

Jason Harrison is in recovery mode after being massively dumped by the man he considered the love of his life. An empty apartment, no note, no messages and no calls leave him adrift, desolate and desperate for a shoulder to cry on. There are plenty of those around, but where’s the man who can heal his broken heart?

There’s Matt, a bartender, an eager lover with a giant libido, and Joey, a cute and understanding cab driver. Plus, there are sundry elegant businessmen, all of them ready to show Jason a good time. But good-time Charlies are not what Jason craves.

When he meets Noah, an old school friend, he appears to be a likely contender. He’s hot and sweet—and just happens to be a male escort. Through him, Jason is drawn into that line of business and finds solace for a time in helping others get over their sexual insecurities.

But is this what the future holds for Jason, or is it in the smile and the arms of ruggedly handsome David Farmer, a man who offers Jason love and stability?

Jason is ready to accept David’s offer, but a threat to disclose Jason’s recent past might be the catalyst that destroys their happiness.

Book Review

Since you’ve just read the above blurb, I’ll sum up Jason’s beginning, with an original haiku:

Sex and F*cks, redux:

Frequency, not piquancy.

A lot, but not hot.

Dear readers, sincerely begging your forgiveness, let’s now discuss Mr. Bowie’s newest offering. [Note up front, let’s give ‘Unbreak My Heart’ a very positive rating, either because or despite it being what might be called a dirty book – your choice.]

Jason, compensating for being screwed over by his former lover, proceeds with his recovery by screwing almost anyone else who appears on his horizon. Sadly, ejaculate provides but a temporary salve for Jason’s hurt! For him, quickly differentiating between physical and emotional comfort, Jason opts for the former – proceeding to surrender his amateur status in favor of “tricking the light fantastic.”

Jason, oddly, meets an old acquaintance who, for the most part, practices professionally bringing (sexual) happiness to guys that can’t find it elsewhere – married men seeking to walk on the wild side; men afraid to make the first move; closeted individuals constrained by career or possible scandal. Jason has an epiphany: if a broken heart is like a physical ache, why not assuage the pain with physical pleasure? How many of you, dear readers, fantasize about possessing the ability to package and financially pitch your sexual favors? It’s interesting to observe Jason’s metamorphosis – all the time wondering if that slutty butterfly was always incipient within him. [And this is when I realized that “dirty” is surely the more apt description of well-detailed sex involving love of the other’s body more than love of the other person!] So, Jason embarks on the full and rapid cure: drunk sex, passing sex, opportunistic sex, sex he can barely remember; and with a sex buddy. And Mr. Bowie repeatedly demonstrates an ability to engage us in the fiery pleasure of literary sex. As is appropriate – all Jason’s partners are gorgeous, erotically talented, and superbly equipped (ex. “…his c*ck… so hot and hard, long with an upward curve toward his navel.”); (ex. “… send me spinning off into the greatest orgasm of my life. I roared when I came, …”). Mr. Bowie employs too many exquisite details to repeat here.

And finally, the hero’s life experience graduates from dirty to delightful, as Mr. Bowie takes him through the trauma of recuperation, preparing him to find true affection and commitment. All the prior physical erotica gels into one lasting attachment, restoring the readers’ faith in lasting love. This transition elevates ‘Unbreak My Heart’ from one-handed reading to wonderful romance.

If you doubt the sincerity of my preceding kudos, I’ll close this review by alerting you that, after reading this novel, we all need to anxiously wait for the planned succeeding, related novel – ‘The Love Between Us’.
