The best way to catch a thief is to act like one—or at least that’s how Matt Glenn operates. He’ll protect your valuables, but the one thing he can’t protect is his own heart. His life is looking up when he meets hot client Ben on his latest assignment. But when Matt comes back into contact with police lieutenant Jordan Cobbers, the man who could have been the love of his life, things get complicated. As the danger rises and lives are placed at risk, will Matt survive?
‘To Steal His Heart’ is an entertaining and suspenseful tale on more than one level. There are some unusual cases accepted and solved by a talented thief, Matt Glenn, who uses his abilities to protect people against the real bad guys. There are a protective kidnapping, several creative break-ins, corrupt cops, a secret trial, and lots of fascinating details about a security business based on an unusual setup. But Matt manages to get in trouble in his personal life as well as his professional one, and things go far less easily for him there. And that just goes to prove that matters of the heart are more complicated than matters of the law…
Matt is an exceptional thief. He loves his job, and figuring out ways around people’s security systems only to then turn around to make them practically idiot-proof is his life. One case leads to another, with word of mouth his most effective way of generating new business. He has the occasional help of a friend who is a cop, a loyal employee, and several other “sources” who are part of his network set up to provide him with information.
One case leads to the next, and by the time I was halfway through the book, I was deeply invested in finding out not just what was next for Matt on a personal level, but who was behind setting him up to look like a gang leader and drug dealer. The methods used by the criminals are quite clever, but Matt keeps his wits about him at all times. He does not know whether to follow through with Ben, whom he has just met and is about to fall for, or pick up things with Jordan, the cop he broke up with a few years ago, but events show Matt the best course of action – eventually.
If you like your stories action-packed and with more than one bad guy to catch, if talented security gurus with more than five guns hidden in their apartment are your thing, and if you’re looking for a read that is entertaining, suspenseful, and has a low-level romance running almost in the background, then you will probably like this novella.
