“Lee Tyack-Frayne’s summer of love – what a time he’d picked for it, with the rest of the world melting down in hate!”

High summer in the wild southwest, and Lee and Gideon are living out a dream of family life, their daughter thriving and even the starchy-arsed minister brother/-in-law entirely human and happy with children of his own. Who could wish for anything more?

But to Lee it does feel dreamlike, and he’s been working too hard. When one psychic flash stops a sinister intruder at a school, Gideon declares his husband off-duty for the summer, doing nothing more than look after Tamsyn and watching the apples ripen in the orchard of their beautiful home.

Lee would be only too happy to agree, but something is wrong. The same sleepy contentment that makes these days with Gid a summer paradise is shielding him – shielding them both – from truths that ought to have been addressed between them long ago. Who is Alice Rawle, and what strange power is causing Gideon to change in its grasp? What fatal veil is blinding these two devoted men to each other’s true nature, and will the pressures from the outside world be enough to sweep all their hard-earned happiness away?

Author’s note and warning: this is Volume One of Two in this tenth Tyack & Frayne story, and does have a cliffhanger end! Volume Two is available to pre-order from Amazon now with a release date of August 2020.

Book Review

“Happiness is ever elusive, but freedom from unhappiness is attainable now, by facing what is rather than making up stories about it.” ~ Eckhart Tolle

‘To Find Him and to Love Him Again’ by Harper Fox begins with Lee in crisis mode created by a full-on assault of his psychic gifts, causing severe emotional and physical symptoms. As if that weren’t bad enough, after trying to leave the hospital, the police arrest him as a suspect in the crime he had predicted and, therefore, averted.

When Gideon hears about Lee’s arrest, he is livid! He rushes to the jail to rectify the situation and finds Lee in a fugue like state, counting from one to five. Gideon calls his supervisor who is fully aware of what Lee is capable of. She asks to talk to the head officer there and reams her out. After speaking to his supervisor, her attitude takes a 180-degree turn. She apologizes profusely and quickly releases Lee.

Gideon rarely puts his foot down but he insists that Lee cease all psychic activity immediately by taking the summer off to rest and recuperate. Lee even realizes that his physical and emotional situation are at a critical level and agrees. Even though it is their special weekend when their daughter stays with a neighbor to give them time alone, Tamsyn is waiting for them. Intuitively, she knows that Lee is in distress. She will not leave his side; she brings him herbs to help his headache and make him sleep. He is so exhausted that he drinks the infusion and falls asleep with her and the dog in the bed with him.

The summer is idyllic. He and Gideon fall into a routine of love and peace, in many ways, closer than ever. Lee finds himself falling into his semiretirement with amazing ease, almost like he is in a dream. He feels out of sync with himself. Gideon is pleased that he is taking his inactivity so well, but wonders about it at the same time. As good as things are, it is as if something undefinable is wrong; an uncomfortable feeling of something between them is off and it feels very... important; something that must be settled.

This book is brilliantly written; the prose is beautiful and flows with a life of its own. Harper has taken a familiar story and has twisted even more emotion out of it than I thought was possible. It affected me so much that I cried at the implications. My only solace is that there are two more books in the series that I sincerely hope will put Lee and Gideon’s world back on its axis.
