Book Blurb

Josiah Redeker has been tied up, tied down, and just plain tied to Bodhi Callahan since the younger marshal was paired with him five years ago. It was an easy slide from partners to best friends, and though Bodhi wanted more, Josiah thought Bodhi could do far better than him. That made for a bumpy ride, and, of course, the moment Josiah realized that trying to live without the man he loved more than anything was not something he could do, that was when Bodhi broke the big news that he was getting married. Adding to that nightmare, they got reassigned as partners because other people needed them more.

It’s a disaster all around, and all Josiah sees ahead of him is pain—and not only from getting shot.

But what he thinks he knows for sure isn’t exactly all there is. Turns out, he’s not the only one who’s missing his touchstone, and Bodhi might be fraying at the edges, coming undone. When two people have been tied together over and over for so long, it’s not so easy to get loose. And maybe neither wants to be free of the other, and that could be their future, as long as no one comes between them… with a gun.

Book Review

I can honestly never get enough of this world by Mary Calmes. The suspense, thrills, snark, humor, comradery, and, of course, the love stories never get old. Not to mention, seeing characters I’ve grown to love over all of these years. ‘Tied Over’ is the story I’ve been waiting for ever since reading ‘Tied Up in Knots’ where Josiah and Bodhi were first introduced. Miro, being who he is, immediately picked up on the vibes and tension between the two partners in that book. When Josiah ended up transferring to the Chicago office, Bodhi followed him and they’ve remained partners for this whole time.

It's been four years since these men moved to Chicago and their partnership remains strong. But it wouldn’t be a Mary Calmes ‘Marshal’ book without some drama, and the past year has been tough. For once, I’m not talking about on the job. These guys aren’t Miro and Ian who have injuries galore and crazy stuff happening almost constantly. Josiah and Bodhi were roommates up until a year ago when they each got their own places, then they were temporarily assigned new partners – with Josiah and Bodhi being the babysitters to evaluate whether these two deputies had what it took – and during this separation Bodhi got engaged. What. The. Hell.

It's taken all of this for Josiah to realize that he missed his chance with the man he’s loved from day one because he was an idiot, but he’s trying to be supportive for his best friend. Bodhi, on the other hand, thought he was doing the adult thing by dating Hayden and then accepting his proposal. Honestly? These two just needed a giant smack upside the head. Which, technically, is what they got when Josiah was shot and injured while working with his temporary partner. This brings these two men back to where they need to be and allowed them to finally express their feelings.

This book is more about the relationship than it really is about any true action/adventure although there is a small bit at the end to wrap up a storyline. This made me very happy because I’m all about seeing the love happening. Granted, it could have been happening for years. Years, I tell ya! But I’m not complaining. Not much anyway. *grin* Everything happened when it needed to. My biggest concern here is whether this is the final book in the series. The author didn’t say, but pretty much everyone has had their story and since the original members of the investigative Marshal service have moved into different positions, I can’t imagine what else there could be. I’m hoping it’s not the case, but if it is I still have these six books to reread at my leisure and I plan to do just that. Regardless, this is another wonderful addition to a beloved series.
