Book Blurb

At Three Bears surf break, the attraction between a group of friends is anything but “Luke warm….”

Dan goes to stay with his best friend Josh in Margaret River, the surfing capital of Western Australia, to sort out his sexual confusion. But his best friend is the source of that confusion. Having never been attracted to a man other than Josh, Dan fears risking their friendship just to discover men aren’t his thing.

Within the first few days, Dan meets Luke, a local barista who offers him surf lessons. Dan soon finds himself emotionally coveting not one, but two men. When they go to Three Bears, his hidden desires begin to emerge. As the ambiguity of Dan’s mixed signals clears, it becomes apparent both of his surfing companions want him—badly.

It is only when Luke and Josh hook up that they formulate “Operation Three Bears,” an adventurous plan that might lead to a satisfying outcome for all of them.

Book Review

In a story that proves how sometimes two just isn’t enough, it’s the third part of the equation that is needed to make things work, three young Australian men figure out that the attraction they all feel toward one other could grow into a lot more – if they let it. There are complications, and not just because a triad is not as easy to figure out as a two-way relationship. There is a friendship at stake, they generate confusion as if it were about to go out of style, misunderstandings get in the way, and several gorgeous scenes at the beach when they surf had me sighing with envy. But what keeps this story going is the emotions, and there are a ton of them going around!

Dan is the cerebral type. He thinks everything to death and then takes some extra time to reconsider all the arguments to make sure he didn’t miss anything the first time. Add the feelings he thinks he may be having for his best friend, Josh, and the chaos is complete. Dan always thought he was straight and he is on overload already from staying with Josh when he meets Luke – only to feel attracted to him too.

Josh is happy to have Dan with him on the one hand, but devastated because he thinks he can’t have what he has wanted from Dan for years – an emotional and physical relationship. As they get to know each other while surfing, the truth of their three-way attraction slowly emerges, but solving the question of what to do about it takes considerably longer.

If you like three-way relationships that are serious enough to turn into a triad, if you prefer there to be a clear reason for three men being better together than two, and if you’re looking for an entertaining, if emotionally complicated, read in the sun-drenched setting of an Australian beach, then you will probably like this novella.
