The police are trying to help him locate his stolen property, but the auction is a done deal. His precious Vendetta is gone. He emails the man who beat him to it, asking if he would consider selling the guitar to him, at a higher price. Micah Drake, a reclusive collector who won the auction says no and is quite rude…until they start emailing each other and discover they share the same unusual passions for obscure music and movies. They accidentally meet--or do they? --and Micah overcomes his shyness, telling Garrick he will give him the guitar if he spends a weekend in bed with him. How badly does he want the Vendetta? Garrick agrees, only in spite of their scorching lovemaking sessions, he finds some vendettas are so one-sided. He's falling for Micah and learns that Micah wants him, too. Book Review

According to, one of the definitions of vendetta is: “any prolonged and bitter feud, rivalry, contention or the like.” But a Vendetta in 'The Vendetta' by A.J. Llewellyn, is a priceless guitar, which happens to be Garrick Cross's most prized possession. When Garrick comes home from work one day, he finds that everything he owns, except for his dog, whom he finds wandering down the street, has been stolen, including the kitchen sink. To make matters even worse, he discovers that his ex-boyfriend and ex-friend have their own vendetta against him and are the ones responsible for his current miserable situation. Garrick can't believe what's happened, how much he's lost, but of all the material things that have been stolen, the one that rips his heart out, is his precious Vendetta guitar.

I'm not sure how I'd react to such a devastating development, but I'm certain that it wouldn't be done as well as Garrick. Yes, he gets emotional, yes, he cries, but, as much as he can he tries to keep his wits about him and keep his sense of humor. Most of the stuff that is stolen he can replace, but not the Vendetta. His desperation to get it back leads him down some dark roads, making some questionable decisions, but even some of these lead to better things. There is a silver lining behind his dark cloud of despair and it appears in the sympathy and help that comes from unexpected sources, i.e., Eric, the businessman, and Mak, the police officer, using their expertise and influence to help him get his possessions back. Their consideration lifts his spirits significantly, giving him hope for the future. Garrick has lost everything, but, at the same time, he's gained a lot more.

As serious as the topic may seem, A.J. infuses enough humor and practicality into the story to keep it enjoyable rather than being oppressive. I love the characters, flaws and all. It makes them more believable and easier to understand and sympathize with. Sarah is a wonderful friend and her help is more than above and beyond. Brad is over-the-top disgusting and insensitive as the ex-boyfriend. Micah, is a contradiction, graceful and charming, yet deceitful and sleazy as any good bad guy needs to be. Everyone plays their part well, contributing to the combination of moods and emotions inherent in this story's twists and turns. I recommend this well-written novella which combines the elements of seriousness such as revenge, theft, and infidelity, with those of hope, friendship, and real love. Thanks, A.J., for the laughs, tears, and reflection.
