At twenty-seven, Tamelik has been a slave more than half his life, having witnessed his family being murdered in front of him when he was just a child. Naturally submissive, although with a petulant streak, he can’t help but fall in love with the master who treats him kindly.
Tam's dreams come true when his mistress walks out, leaving her husband behind. For six glorious months, he and his master get to be together. Then Tam is ordered to purchase another slave.
He wants to hate Kai for being unruly and ungrateful. For being of the same race as the men who murdered his family. For being his eventual replacement in their master’s bed. But it’s hard to hate a man who cries himself to sleep, flinches at the slightest touch, and blushes beautifully when he’s kissed.
Seducing Kai has suddenly become more challenge than chore, and with his master’s encouragement, Tam finds himself falling for his new companion. Except... nobody can be in love with two people at once, can they?
I loved this unusual tale of pleasure slave Tam, who is sent to purchase a second slave for his beloved Master. The plot immediately captivated me, as did the book’s gritty setting of desert sands and war-ravaged lands where nomadic tribes, barbarian warriors, and soldiers duke it out to tame a harsh world. A colorful, primitive land where a free man can turn slave if conquered by his enemy. Kate Aaron’s smooth, eloquent style made for a fast-paced, sensuous journey into the mysteries of a pleasure slave’s life.
Bewildered that his Master has sent him on the daunting task of purchasing a new slave, Tam is determined to set aside his angst that whoever he purchases might supplant his place in his Master’s bed. After bypassing nearly every slave offered by the auctioneer, Tam purchases, not an easily trainable youth as expected, but a soldier.
Kai ‘s defiant attitude stands out clearly at the slave market and many are interested in acquiring the gorgeous, rebellious warrior. Tam immediately recognizes that the others seek to break Kai’s spirit and hoping to save the soldier from this punishing fate, Tam buys him. The Master is not displeased by Tam’s choice, but leaves it to Tam to instruct the belligerent warrior in the duties of his new station in life. While Kai doesn’t hate Tam, he does hate his situation and he questions Tam’s contentment of his status. Attempting to bridge the gap between his Master and Kai, Tam tries to please both his Master and the new slave…in the only way he knows how.
The resulting steamy and romantic tale of hope, jealousy, and acclimation is told from pleasure slave Tam’s point of view. Slave in this story is not the slave of traditional BDSM stories, so readers shouldn’t expect any heavy tie, gag, and whip episodes in the sizzling sexcapades that occur as the three men each find their place in the eventual ménage. For me the story reads like a sublime visit inside the pleasure arena of steamy, history-morphed series like Spartacus, Rome, or Marco Polo. This, despite the word gladiator not being mentioned. The character of Tam makes for one hot, adorable, and courageous submissive. Tam’s efforts to train Kai result in a lush, stimulating story that hints at the political upheaval in the surrounding lands. While this book covers the building of trust between slave, soldier and Master within the walls of the Master’s home, its end thrust me, like the characters, out into the heat of battle. I eagerly purchased the next two books in this terrific series and am anxious to read how the compelling fledgling relationship fares amidst the trappings of war.
Thank you, Kate Aaron, for penning this exceptional and thrilling series of battle-worn men finding love and respect.
