Can this romance stand a snowball’s chance in hell?

Hitting a dog in a snowstorm is a heck of a way to meet a guy. When August Long rushes an injured stray to the vet, he’s blown away by the gruff yet sexy doctor. August never intended to hook up with a small-town local, but Eric Grover woos him with snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and a passion hot enough to melt the winter snow.

No one seems to know why an ex-military surveyor has moved into Hopewell Springs and Eric is intrigued by the stranger. Tall, handsome August lights his fire while filling a need for companionship he hadn’t realized he lacked. Spending time with August and Bear, his recovering German shepherd, makes Eric begin to believe love is possible.

But there’s a shadow threatening their budding romance. August fears telling Eric everything his job entails and keeps the secret until the truth detonates, nearly destroying them. For the two men to reconcile their differences, it may take a Christmas miracle—and the intervention of an adorable dog or two.

Book Review

“It's so amazing when someone comes to your life and you expect nothing out of it but suddenly they're right in front of you and it's everything you needed.” ~ unknown

Eric Grover thinks he has everything he needs: a home in a nice quiet town, a successful veterinary practice, friends, and his dog, Bear. What more could he want? At least that's what Eric thinks until a handsome young man, August Long, stumbles into his practice with a dog he accidentally hit with his car.

August feels awful about hitting the dog and intends to do all he can to help him. He drives the dog to the vet, who immediately takes over and carries him inside. It turns out that the dog's injuries aren't life threatening, but he does need to be taken care of. First is to get the dog somewhere safe. August is immediately attracted to the handsome doctor with his strength and compassion for the dog. August can hardly believe it himself when the vet talks him into fostering the dog, whom they name Bear, until a more suitable arrangement can be made.

Eric is more than interested in August, who looks too young to have done everything in life he says he has. Eric wants to get to know him better and checking on Bear is the perfect excuse for visiting August. He isn't surprised, but is delighted when August decides to keep Bear instead of finding him another home.  Soon, the men find themselves becoming closer than they expected, but they both realize that there is something in each other that fills a need, other than physical pleasure. When August is asked why he's surveying near their town, he doesn't lie, but he doesn't make it perfectly clear either. He wants to tell Eric the truth, but can't seem to find the right time. Finally, August sends Eric a text that he needs to talk. Eric comes but things don't go as planned. He's furious at August because he's discovered why August is really there and even more so that he didn't tell Eric himself. August tries to defend himself, but Eric will have none of it and leaves, saying they are over.

This endearing romantic love story has no profound message or undue angst. It is an easy, comfortable read that may be enjoy while drinking tea or hot chocolate. Thanks, Bonnie, for the handsome men, loveable dogs, and a happy ending.
