Shane and Leo have been best friends forever—through high school, dating disasters, and family losses. Lately though, Shane has been feeling more and more unsettled. His girlfriend dumped him because he wouldn’t spank her, and he can’t stop thinking about the kiss he and Leo shared in high school, long before life happened and they grew up.

When Leo confronts Shane about his depression, the whole, unpleasant story about the breakup comes spilling out. Leo offers to spank Shane so he can understand the appeal, and shockingly, Shane wants to agree, but both of them are straight and he’s not sure it’s a good idea. Besides, he’s not into pain and he feels weird asking his best friend for sexual advice—Leo is too important to him to risk their friendship over something like this. So what if he can’t figure out why the idea is so intriguing?

Be Warned: m/m sex, light BDSM

Book Review

In an interesting, somewhat lighthearted, variation on the "friends to lovers" theme, this short story goes from extremely funny to very hot within its short few pages. The two main characters are such goofs, are entirely clueless, yet clearly devoted to each other as best friends, that they had me grinning about their antics from the very start. They certainly are far from mature, and less than enlightened about their own needs, but somehow that didn't bother me. Somehow, for me, they pulled it off.

Shane is the one who starts it all by being depressed about his latest breakup with a girl. He's never felt a connection with a woman - and yes, I do think he should have wondered about that, but he is very accomplished at denying the possibility he could be gay. There isn’t even any deeper motivation, he's just ignoring the many hints he's had over the years. Chief among them are some kisses he exchanged with his best friend, Leo, in high school. Not willing to admit how excited he got by them, he forges ahead and tries to date women. When one of them asks him to spank her, he hates the thought of it, and runs to Leo for advice.

Leo is no more mature than Sean, but he, at least, has entertained the possibility he might be gay. His offer to spank Sean, just so he can understand what it feels like and that it isn't harmful or malicious, if does it right, is meant well. I laughed my head off as they discuss back and forth how to do it and what it all means. As soon as they begin, the heat between them rises to the point where even they can no longer ignore what was blatantly obvious to me in the beginning.

If you like BDSM with more than a touch of humor and no pain at all, if you enjoy reading about two men who are painfully ignorant of who they are but take in the "revelations" with curiosity and determination to use what they learn to their respective, erm, pleasure, and if you're looking for a read that is as funny as it is hot, then you will probably like this short story.
