Book Blurb

Hiding in plain sight is a risky business—in more ways than one.

Jamie is hiding from the past and sacrificing a lot to do so. After witnessing a murder, he’s on the run from powerful enemies. Taking a job at a rough leather bar, Spikes, is a way to survive off-grid.

Bubba is the bouncer at Spikes who takes a personal interest in protecting Jamie’s very cute behind, but when Jamie runs from the club in panic straight into the path of a van, there’s nothing Bubba can do.

Amnesia puts Jamie at risk, but his returning memories are even more dangerous. Desperate to protect his friends, he puts his life on the line for Bubba—the only person he can rely on to save his neck.

Reader advisory: This book contains a scene of attempted rape. There are also scenes involving abduction, violence, and the forcible administration of drugs.

First edition published in the 'Hard Evidence' anthology by Pride Publishing, September 2020.

Book Review

This is one of those reads that is short but to the point all the way through. I really enjoyed this story, though I would have liked for it to be a full-length novel instead. Despite that, it was an excellent read.

Jamie, aka Jay, never expected to find himself hiding in plain sight and especially never expected that to be in a place like Spikes. But here he is, working at Spikes and not liking it at all but doing what he has to do. The only good thing about this place is Robbie, aka Bubba. He is the bouncer who has saved Jamie’s butt on more then one occasion since he started working here five months earlier.

When the danger that Jamie has been running from shows up at his job, Jamie does what he has become second nature to him recently – and that is run. But this time he is not so lucky because with trying to get away from the danger in the club, Jamie runs head first into another danger, a van.

When Jamie wakes up in the hospital and has no clue who he is or how he ended up there, he knew he was in trouble. Luckily there is no permanent damage and the amnesia he is experiencing is supposed to be short-lived. The saving grace for Jamie is that Robbie came to the hospital with him and is now planning to make sure that Jamie is okay.

After months of lusting after Jamie, Robbie finally has the opportunity to maybe make a move where he is concerned. But first Robbie needs to find out exactly what is going on because he knows that Jamie is in some kind of danger and there is nothing he can do help him if Jamie does not confide in him.

Will Jamie take Robbie up on the offer of help? Does Jamie feel the same way about Robbie as he does about him? What happens when the danger finally catches up to him?

This was a really good read. I loved it and look forward to whatever book L.M. Somerton comes up with next!
