New Colorado Protectorate fell with the assassination of Chancellor Clarke. Like many others, Todd and Nick Ruger left the land of their birth and made a home to the north in Yellowknife. Their world was ever changing. The time came to say a sad farewell to some of their friends and loved ones, but they were taken in with open arms by others and in turn offered shelter to yet more. Through the years they remained steadfast in their duty as sentries to protect and defend those that needed it the most.

Time marches on but through it all they hold each other dear and cherish the love they've shared. There are still angry ghosts, Windigos and water spirits to contend with. Their lives change, offering them new roles. When the time comes, they do what sentries have done for generations prior and teach others the skills to carry on as sentries. The Rugers lives were rich and their hearts full with their devotion and love for each other. The tradition of the sentries lived on forever. It was the legacy of Todd and Nick Ruger. That was the way it was always meant to be.

Book Review

I personally believe that Elizabeth Noble is a meanie trapped in a genius’s body. It was bad enough how long I had to wait for book five in this incredible, amazing, dystopian, action adventure, and mystery thriller series, but seriously? 'Ringed Love' has taken forever…or, at least, it certainly seems to have. Although, considering this is the final book, I can only imagine the author's heartache at ending such a huge chapter in her own life. And since so much has happened in the past five books, I was looking forward to Todd and Nick getting their own much-needed peaceful, quiet life.

It's been fifty-three years since New Colorado protectorate fell in the war, consigning all owners and slaves to death. Todd and Nick escaped and headed north back to Elk's Ridge in Yellowknife protectorate where they made a life for themselves. Todd was the sheriff of Elk's Ridge up until he retired, but Nick is a veterinarian, who also trained as a doctor many years before. Nick's students love to hear the old stories about the days after the end of the war…and so did I.

It was fascinating to me to watch as Todd and Nick ended up hooking up with a wagon train heading north. They had old maps, pre-apocalypse time, that showed tunnels that had been built underground for use in moving people and supplies from area to area. The plan was to get in to one and use it to travel closer to the border for Yellowknife. Of course, it wouldn't be my guys if there wasn't supernatural happenings within the tunnel. It also wouldn't be my guys if they didn't turn around a few weeks after being home, and head back into danger to try to rescue friends and family.

I absolutely adored the way the author wrote this book showing Todd and Nick's life after the war ended in different spans of time, so I could see what they were up to, but knowing during their downtimes they were together, happy, and just living a pretty simple life. What they were up to was protecting their town and their surrounding area against anything and everything paranormal using all of their sentry skills. When they weren't doing that, they were training others with their knowledge so that when Todd and Nick were gone, their teachings would remain to help protect and save others.

Thank you, Elizabeth, so much for this series, and these men. I've mentioned in reviews before that Todd and Nick truly were soul mates and there wasn't anything they didn't do to stay together. It brought me an immeasurable amount of joy to watch them get married, see Nick take the exams to become a licensed doctor of veterinary medicine (although even this joyous occasion was tempered by them dealing with the supernatural), and just living their life of almost seventy years. Together.

Tonight they were together under the stars. Todd and Nick had been given the gift of each other long ago, and they’d cherished every minute and loved each other completely and without reservation. Devoted to each other, they were in this together, forever. That was the right way, the best way, the way they were always meant to be.
