This lion is ready to claim what’s his on the day made for lovers.

Figuring out what Valentine’s Day is isn’t easy, especially for lion shifters. Until coming to Sanctuary, Leo had never heard of the holiday, but he’s not about to let the special day go by without taking notice. He knows his heart and it belongs to Axl. He’ll do what it takes to get Axl’s attention, but will Axl share his feelings?

Axl is the brute of the group and has no need for Valentine’s Day. He’s tough and takes what he wants—including Leo. He doesn’t need a holiday to dictate his actions. That is until Leo bares his soul and his needs. Will Leo’s honesty be enough for Axl to come to terms with his feelings? Anything can happen on Valentine’s Day.

NOTE: Loving Leo is part of the Sanctuary series, but it can be read as a standalone book, and it has an HEA and no cliffhanger.

First edition published by Resplendence Publishing, February 2016.

Book Review

Even though the main story behind the shifter sanctuary was completed in the previous book, once the petting zoo with its illegal hunting activities was closed down, it seems there are more stories left to tell in this world. ‘Loving Leo’ focuses on Leo and Axl who have been f*ckbuddies for a while. With Valentine’s Day coming up it looks like things are about to change between them, and I loved the way Leo approaches the issue. An excellent example of topping from the bottom!

I always felt sorry for Leo because he seemed a lot more invested in a relationship with Axl than the other way around. It was clear that Axl was interested in Leo sexually, but he was never nice to Leo, always commanding and usually grumpy. Leo always followed along with what Axl wanted. As it turns out, Leo does have his own ideas – but they all revolve around making his relationship with Axl more “special” than it has been. In this story Leo figures out how to get what he really wants from Axl, finds out what Valentine’s Day is all about, and decides to go for it.

Axl is tough, grumpy, withdrawn, and thinks he doesn’t need anyone. But the thought of Leo being interested in anyone makes his hair stand on end. Better yet, it makes him take action, and I loved how he opened up. Not that he turns mushy or anything – Leo wouldn’t want that – but being honest with himself and talking about things with John, their alpha’s mate, help Axl come to a few conclusions. Phew!

If you like this series about lion shifters and their struggles to figure out how to live as humans, if you want to find out more about two men who have been together for a while but lack the emotional certainty that they belong together, and if you’re looking for a read that is hot, sweet, and is a nice add-on to the ‘Shifter Sanctuary’ series, then you might like this short Valentine’s-Day-themed story.
