Book Blurb

After a string of bad Valentine’s for the past few years, winding up alone and single is the last thing Lizzie expected. Her new boss, Sharon, loves Valentine’s Day, and doesn’t want to see Lizzie alone or unhappy for the holiday.

Sharon’s misguided attempt at a grand romantic gesture backfires into painful humiliation for the shy Lizzie. When Sharon realizes that her strategy is only causing Lizzie pain, she discovers that it’s the little things that really matter when it comes to lovers.

Book Review

Valentine’s Day isn’t always a happy occasion – and Lizzie has had a particularly bad run recently. This year her girlfriend dumped her just over a week before the day itself, and Lizzie is having trouble coming to terms with it. What adds to her problem is that she is painfully shy, has trouble when people look her in the eyes, and can only get close to someone when she feels safe.

Lizzie’s story is full of painful moments and lots of trial and error for Sharon, her boss, who is clearly interested in Lizzie – but who does not know how to make things work. As it turns out it is the little things – rather than grand gestures - that matter most to Lizzie. It takes a few attempts for Sharon to figure this out, and each one carries a real risk of sending Lizzie running. As a result ‘Little Things’ is a somewhat suspenseful and very cute little romance that made me sigh with relief when Lizzie and Sharon finally figure each other out.
If you like your Valentine’s stories short and sweet, if you think shy people deserve as much attention as they can handle – but not more, and if you’re looking for a cute read that might just make you smile, you will probably like this short story.
