Time is running out.

After saving the world twice, Xander, Jameson and friends plunge headlong into a new crisis. The ithani—the aliens who broke the world—have reawakened from their hundred millennia-long slumber. When Xander and Jameson disappear in a flash, an already fractured world is thrown into chaos.

The ithani plans, laid a hundred thousand years before, are finally coming to pass, and they threaten all life on Erro. Venin and Alix go on a desperate search for their missing and find more than they bargained for. And Quince, Robin and Jessa discover a secret as old as the skythane themselves.

Will alien technology, unexpected help from the distant past, destiny and some good old-fashioned firepower be enough to defeat an enemy with the ability to split a world? The final battle of the epic science fiction adventure that began in Skythane will decide the fate of lander and skythane alike. And in the north, the ithani rise….

Book Review

As the final part of an imaginative and exciting trilogy, ‘Ithani’ definitely delivers. It is an action-packed conclusion to the adventures of a set of characters I have come to love, answers the many questions that were raised as events on Oberon unfolded in the previous two books, and provides fascinating insight into the history of an alien race that spans a hundred thousand years. The worldbuilding is exemplary, and with character growth for pretty much all participants, this series is more than amazing. It does have to be read in order because the many “puzzle pieces” the author has laid out won’t fit otherwise.

Planet Erro, the former Oberon now that it has been reunited with Titania, continues to be in trouble. What began to emerge in the previous book as an alien threat from the ithani, evolves into a full-fledged crisis as they awaken from millennia of sleep and want their planet back. Xander and Jameson, now a stable couple very much in love, have their hands full trying to figure out what happened in the past and how to manage the chaos in the present. The danger they have been in before seems pretty harmless now that the true threat emerges and turns out to be very different from what anyone could have expected.

But Xander and Jameson can’t do it all by themselves, so it’s pretty much every one of their friends – plus a few new ones – to the rescue. Even some of the people who used to be enemies are coming around now that it’s clear humans and skythane alike will have to adjust their view of the world. Each of the individuals and groups have separate tasks, and following them all as they “do their bit” increases the suspense by providing multiple points of view and adds variety to a mystery that shocked and surprised me more than once. What an exceptional journey!

If you like trilogies where each part builds on the previous story and adds layers that make the final outcome unexpected yet completely logical, if you want your aliens to be unusual and surprising, and if you’re looking for a read that is action-packed, suspenseful to the last page, and full of revelations that explain the series’ mysteries, then you will probably like this novel as much as I do. The ending is unexpected, satisfying, and made me sigh with relief when all was said and done.
