Book Blurb

Small dogs can make big changes… if you open your heart.

Carter Embree always hoped someone might rescue him from his productive, tragically boring, and (slightly) ethically compromised life. But when an urchin at a grocery store shoves a bundle of fluff into his hands, Carter goes from rescuee to rescuer—and he needs a little help.

Sandy Corrigan, the vet tech who eases Carter into the world of dog ownership, first assumes Carter is a crazy-pants client who just needs to relax. But as Sandy gets a glimpse of the funny, kind, sexy man under Carter’s mild-mannered exterior, he sees that with a little care and feeding, Carter might be “Super Pet Owner”—and decent boyfriend material to boot.

But Carter needs to see himself as a hero first. As he says goodbye to his pristine house and hello to carpet treatments and dog walkers, he finds there really is more to himself than a researching drudge without a backbone. A Carter Embree can rate a Sandy Corrigan. He can be supportive. He can be a man who stands up for his principles!

He can be the owner of a small dog.

Book Review

I have been reading some pretty heavy angst and pain recently so I knew it was time to break out Amy Lane for lighthearted romance. What? Amy Lane? Lighthearted? Isn't she the one that has done you in with the emotional drama? For once I can honestly say that Ms. Lane has had nothing to do with my heavy emotional scarring. Ever since I read the blurb and the excerpt for 'Freckles' I've been biding my time until my greedy fingers could latch on to it. Well, that time is now, peeps, so shhhhh… let me enjoy.

Carter is the worst picture of dejected, pathetic, second chair lawyer, my-life-will-never-get-any-better, and why-can't-I-seem-to-keep-a-boyfriend man that I have seen in a long time. Don't get me wrong, though. It's not in a sniveling, weasel like way, oh no. It made me want to take him home, feed him, and make him see there is so much more to himself than he has ever thought. That isn't my job though. That is Freckles job, and from the moment she's placed in his hands, she takes her job very seriously.

"His mouth was definitely projecting the crazy. Sandy smirked and looked at the little dog, who gazed back, as if to say, Well, yes, but he’s new."

Sandy is absolutely adorable and he and his coworkers reminded me so much of the fabulous people at my own vet’s. Sandy is working and going to school to become a vet. He just wants someone to love him back the way he loves them. Sandy deserves to be a priority in someone's life. He can plainly see that Carter has potential even if his boss is an amoral a**hole. Sandy figures it can't hurt to make his interest known, right? These two are freaking adorable together and add in Freckles, and my stomach just went swoosh so many times throughout my reading.

I loved this fluffy (for Amy), lighthearted romance! There was a little drama with Carter realizing that he could make changes in his life to be a better person and not be stuck working for a shady shyster. Sandy helped him to see that but I honestly think it was Freckles who started him down the road initially. Way to go for Carter when he stood up and took charge!

'Freckles' is definitely going on the list of happy, joyful, very romantic and sexy books that I can reread over and over and over again. Especially when I need cheering up. Thank you, Amy!
