Book Review

Dang those cliff-hangers! I just finished this book and I immediately want the next one! This story was an incredible start to this three-book series and I am on the edge of my seat for the next one.

This is a book about a world that has many different types of people in it... witches, werewolves, assassins, humans, and even vampires. Though they are each known to the other, they have sets of rules that each type of person has to follow. In Ryder’s case, he is a human who went to work for the Assassin’s Guild. So his regular set of rules that he would normally have to follow went out the window when he joined. When he went to work for Jonathan he never thought he would meet and fall in love with another assassin, who also has magic since he is a witch. But that is still exactly what has happened. Another first for Ryder is fact that even though he is not personally poly, Felix is and he is okay with it. He has never had to meet the other man that Felix is having a relationship with but he knows that Luca exists and is a werewolf.

All jobs that the assassins take go through and are vetted by the owner, Jonathan. So when a client comes to Ryder for a job and things become weird, Ryder knows something is not right. He knows that even though he does not want to swear a blood oath to this job, he is helpless to stop from accepting it. Ryder knows that he needs to talk to someone about the job he has taken even though he would normally turn this one down. So who better than his lover, Felix.

Once Ryder explains everything that happened when the client came to Ryder and the blood oath, Felix realizes that not only was Jonathan enchanted into taking the job but so was Ryder. He also knows that in order to complete this job, Ryder is going to need his help and possibly some others’ as well. The person whom Ryder is supposed to kill is very protected and very powerful. Both men know this is a job that is high risk and most likely a job that will fail. But if that is the case, then Ryder will die because of the blood oath.

Ryder and Felix end up asking help from one of Ryder’s friends and after the first attempt at the mark and Felix almost dying, they come up with another plan and bring in a couple of other people. This plan also fails and sadly a woman who volunteered to help them is killed. The one-week deadline for the mark to be killed is quickly approaching and things are not looking good for Ryder.

While all of this has been happening, Felix’s other boyfriend has been locked away because of the full moon and taking care of this pack. When he returns and finds Felix so consumed with worry, he knows that he needs to find out what is happening. When everything is explained to him about Ryder and the danger he is in, Luca knows he has to help even though he has never even met him. The fact that Ryder means so much to Felix is all Luca needs to convince him to help them complete this mark.

Luca and Ryder come face to face for the very first time and something strange is taking hold around the two of them. Regardless the final plan is made and everything is set into motion. Though it all seems to be going according to plan, there is an air of something not being right. No one can pinpoint what it is until the darkness reveals itself. That is when the true danger for everyone comes into play.

Can all these men battle to take down the mark and save Ryder’s life? What will happen when someone much darker and more sinister than the mark reveals themselves? Will everyone be able to make it out of this alive or will one of them die?

This was such a great read. I am truly excited about the next book. I cannot wait for it to be available. This is definitely a highly recommended read!!
