Book Blurb

In a world that is still getting used to shifters, where everyone thinks omegas are second class citizens, nature photographer and omega Braden Payne lets everyone think he’s a beta. That way no one gives him a hard time and he doesn’t have to live a repeat of his failed relationship. But when his car breaks down in the remote Blackwood forest in Western Australia, without the medication that lets him hide who he is, he’s faced with what he fears most: an unmated alpha.

Government forest guardian and alpha Coll MacDubhar is tired of illegal loggers, foolish tourists and people who underestimate the wilds of Western Australia. He discovers Braden lost and in need of medical assistance in the forest he protects and knows something’s not right.

But there’s hidden depths to Braden that capture his interest, and no decent alpha would walk away when Braden’s unwelcome past comes to visit.

Book Review

As a young omega, Braden had a very traumatic experience with his former alpha, Hammish. Hammish almost killed Braden when he went into heat and because of this experience, Braden decided to suppress his heats and basically turn himself into a beta. Only a select few know of his omega status and that is how he wants it. But sometimes things we want are not exactly what we get.

Braden is a photographer. He loves the adventure of capturing the images that he most wants and what he believes will sell. After a trip to the Blackwood forest for some photos, he finds himself in a situation he never anticipated. He knew his fuel pump would be going out soon, just not when he is stuck in the middle of nowhere with a storm coming in and his meds almost gone. Braden knows he is in trouble because he has suppressed his heats for over ten years now, and the last time he had one was horrible. His only hope is that an alpha is not the one to find him.

Coll is in charge of the Blackwood forestry. He makes sure that no one cuts down trees they should not be, and that people who find themselves stranded for one reason or another are rescued. Coll did not expect to find anyone stranded while out on patrol, but when he comes across a ute surrounded by downed trees, he knows this is exactly what he is about to find. What he did not expect was the person stranded to turn out to be an omega and in heat at that.

When Coll finds Braden, Braden is terrified that he will use his alpha control to get what he wants. Instead Coll turns out to be unlike any alpha that Braden has ever encountered. He has respect for omegas and the choices they make and he is caring. This throws Braden for a loop, but he is finding that he really likes this about Coll. Especially after he helps him through the worst of his heat all without having sex with him.

Once his heat is over, Braden believes the danger is behind him and starts to come to terms with wanting something out of this thing between him and Coll – when out of the blue danger from his past walks back through the door!

How will Braden handle this new development? Will he find a way to stay strong or will he let his fears make him retreat back to the version of himself that he has created?

This was a great read. I really loved Coll. He is a gentle soul who has a huge heart. Braden is one of those individuals who learns he is stronger than he ever thought he could be and uses that strength to find a new happiness in his life! Great start to this series!
