Book Blurb

Rowan Lane feels like he's been on the run for years. The love of his life, and the man he thought he would spend the rest of his life with, was a shifter. That wasn't so bad, but when Max bit Rowan without his permission, locking them together for life, Rowan panicked and ran. Now, he's back. Rowan witnessed a murder. Someone powerful is out to kill him, and Rowan knows Max can protect him.

Max never thought he would see his mate again. The love of his life left, and Max couldn't blame him. Biting someone against their will and mating with them is considered shameful to his kind. He should have known better.

When Rowan comes back, neither of them can seem to keep their hands off of each other. Max wants to go back to the good old days, but he also wants to keep his mate alive and catch this killer, before the killer catches them.

Book Review

Imagine being scared enough to run back to a man/shifter who violated you by biting and mating with you without your consent? Even though Rowan thinks of Max as the love of his life, that nonconsensual binding them together forever was just too much. And now a killer is after Rowan and he can’t think of anywhere safer than Max’s house. Even so - it’s pretty clear from the start that Rowan has almost no hope for any sort of ending other than his death. Max feels nothing but remorse for what he did in the heat of the moment and when Rowan suddenly reappears he has no idea what to do or think. Quite the conundrum for both of them!

Five years may have passed since Rowan and Max were lovers, but the chemistry and underlying love are still there. Max is an alpha, as protective as they come, and added to the way he still feels bad for what he did, his need to take care of Rowan is almost overwhelming. Max is also a private detective, and those skills come in awfully handy as he works on bringing down the killer who is after Rowan.

Rowan has no idea how to deal with his fear and the fact that he witnessed several murders, but the strong feelings that well up as soon as he is back in Max’s arms are almost more confusing. He knows one night of passion doesn’t mean their issues are solved, but at least it’s a start. And Rowan is finally honest enough to admit that it is exactly what he wants – for them to start over.

Between the emotional drama of Rowan and Max’s reunion and dealing with their issues, the threat of the killer out to get Rowan, and Max’s relentless efforts to protect Rowan, this is quite an action-packed story. The passion between the former lovers is off the charts and their bedroom activities are sizzling hot. As for Rowan reuniting with Max’s family – now that he knows he can actually call them a pack – that was a wonderful addition to the story, giving me some much-needed chances to relax in between all the action.

If you like protective alphas who are mature enough to be interested in a real relationship, if you think everyone deserves a second chance, and if you’re looking for a read that is as suspenseful as it is hot, then you will probably like this novella.
