Book Blurb

Take a journey into the past and meet the men who laughed, lived, and loved in a bygone era. This collection includes three short but sweet tales of infatuation, adventure, humor, and even a dash of the paranormal.

When Love Walked In

Private investigator Bruce Shannon’s cases of missing persons and infidelity don’t inspire warm feelings around Valentine’s Day. Luckily Bruce is quite happy with only his cat for companionship—until handsome Jace Scarret wanders off the street and into Bruce’s life.

In His Corner

Former world heavyweight boxing champion Jessie “the Demon” Dalton needs a cornerman, and Eli jumps at the chance, hoping for answers about why Jessie broke his heart years ago. It soon becomes clear that Jessie needs Eli in his corner—and in his life. Now all Eli has to do is convince Jessie.

Believe Me, Beloved

Robert Bradley dreams of singing on the radio, and when he attends the masked ball of handsome station owner Gabriel Chase, Robert has no idea his dream is about to take an unexpected paranormal turn.

Book Review

Visiting the past can be educational or fun and entertaining, and ‘A Tender Curiosity’ offers three looks at history, two of them “real” and one paranormal. All of the stories evoke the vibe of times past, with clothing, food, and the kind of language used in the past. The author does a great job setting the scene as well as telling stories that are typical for the early years of the 19th century. I thoroughly enjoyed exploring history through the various characters’ eyes.

When Love Walked In
The early 1930s were not exactly a prosperous time for most people, and Bruce barely makes a living by going after missing persons and cheating husbands and wives. He is as gruff as they come, does not believe in Valentine’s Day, but when he finds a man in trouble, he doesn’t hesitate to help. Jace desperately needs a break after his cheating lover took advantage of his generosity, but he does not expect Bruce to be as understanding as he turns out to be.

If you’re looking for an unexpectedly sweet romance between somewhat unlikely partners, then you will probably like this short story.

In His Corner
1920s New York City is the setting for this drama between ex-almost-lovers reunited by Fate – or rather, one of the men’s uncle. Eli has been in love with Jessie for years, but with thirteen years between them and Jessie a fairly famous boxer who can’t afford a scandal, Eli’s chances are nonexistent. But then Eli’s uncle brings Jessie back to New York for a charity fight and it is Eli’s last chance to go for what he wants. And boy, does he!

If you like your romances with a bit of drama and unexpectedly sweet, then you should give this short story a go.

Believe Me, Beloved
The Great Depression in the 1930s was a tough place for most people, but this story looks at the life of a rich radio station owner, Gabriel, who is unaffected by the financial troubles. Not just that – as it turns out when an ambitious singer named Robert attends one of the man’s masked balls, there are other, far more significant and totally unexpected differences between Robert and Gabriel. And things get more sinister as the story unfolds into a glimpse of a supernatural world that takes justice into its own hands.

If you’re ready for a paranormal twist in a tale about greed and its consequences, then you will probably like this short story.
